Own Your Armor™ · Team Performance

Why doesn’t your team say what it thinks?

A team workshop to build trust, accountability, and real communication. For teams too polite to name what’s actually going on.

The Threat–Armor–Impact Cycle

Teams naturally fall into self-protective patterns from unspoken threats.

Mapping the unintended impacts and team patterns can bring down the armor.

Armor is psychological defense: the self-protective behavior that fear in corporate life evokes. Defensiveness, frustration, shutting down, going numb. Useful for the person in the moment, costly for the team (Brody, 2022).

This model, developed by psychologist and executive coach Dr. Michelle Brody, helps teams safely recognize their threats and patterns, defuse the vicious cycles, and shift toward productive communication and trust.

Strong visual metaphors help the team understand: there are no bad apples, only armored teams. Moving from blame to team ownership is a key part of the skill.

The method leverages organizational development frameworks and emotional intelligence methods, rooted in performance and neuroscience.

Common questions

Your questions, answered.

Who is Own Your Armor for?

Teams with unspoken dynamics, emotions that hide under the table, conflict avoidance, or people who can’t speak up. The team co-owns the dynamics they create together.

What does the team actually learn?

To recognize both internal and external threats, the physiology of defensiveness, frustration, shutting down, and going numb, and how the different armor patterns show up in the team.

What is the Threat-Armor-Impact model?

A model developed by psychologist and executive coach Dr. Michelle Brody (Own Your Armor, 2022). Unspoken threats trigger self-protective armor; the unintended impacts ripple through the team. Mapping the cycle defuses it and shifts stuck mindsets toward trust.

How is this different from a team-building day?

Team-building creates a good day. This maps the specific cycle blocking your team and targets the inhibitors of trust, authenticity, and high performance, with a shared language the team keeps using afterward.

How long is the workshop?

Half or full day, with self-assessments and tailored prep calls beforehand so the group work lands on your team’s real patterns. The Own Your Armor book pre-read is optional.
