Your body knows

Nervous system regulation for chronic stress patterns.

Somatic Experiencing is a body-based method for supporting chronic stress patterns. This is not mindset coaching or talk therapy.

It builds nervous-system regulation: the foundation for clear thinking, emotional intelligence, and composure.

Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing is practiced worldwide in coaching, health, and performance settings (Levine, 1997; Payne, Levine & Crane-Godreau, 2015).

Through guided awareness and small movements, you track micro-signals of stress like tension, hypervigilance, or collapse, and give your system the space to settle and return to balance.

Over time, you build the capacity to move between activation (stress) and regulation (recovery), toward a baseline that is alert, responsive, and less reactive under pressure.

Somatic Experiencing is the body-based layer of the Performance Under Pressure approach: building the capacity to perform under pressure, and to recover from it.

Client voices

What clients say.

“This isn’t counseling. You understand how your body works under stress. I feel empowered again.”
A. H.Managing Director, Switzerland
“It’s a more advanced session, beyond traditional coaching. You feel the physical benefits rather than just the intellectual ones.”
Eva HoeffelmanCommunications Executive, Geneva
“During this process, I was better able to keep my emotions level. When talking with other people about their challenging situations, I was able to listen, but not take on their emotions.”
AnonymousLucerne
“I feel more self-compassion, self-love. And let go of the energy of holding things down, emotions and tension. It’s energizing and it’s beautiful.”

Common questions

Your questions, answered.

Is Somatic Experiencing therapy?

No. This work is delivered as coaching, not psychotherapy or medical treatment. Somatic Experiencing is used here to support nervous-system regulation, stress recovery, and performance capacity, not to diagnose or treat. Clients who are under the care of a psychotherapist or medical professional continue working with their licensed provider, and this work is alongside.

How is Somatic Experiencing different from somatic coaching?

Somatic Experiencing regulates the autonomic nervous system at the threat-safety level. Somatic coaching builds awareness and choice on top of that foundation. Here, both are used when relevant, but always within a coaching scope.

What training supports this work?

This is trauma-informed coaching, not clinical therapy. The work supports people experiencing the effects of chronic stress, such as dysregulation, emotional reactivity, or exhaustion, through body-based awareness and nervous-system training. It draws on 2,300+ hours of professional training, including Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), Polyvagal-informed Certified Performance Coach, Internal Family Systems, and biofeedback and neurofeedback.

How many sessions are typical?

It depends on goals. Some clients complete 6 to 8 sessions; others integrate Somatic Experiencing over time alongside coaching or performance work.

Can Somatic Experiencing be done online?

Yes. Somatic Experiencing does not require physical contact. Regulation skills are learned through attention, pacing, and tracking, which work equally well online. Working with an experienced somatic coach supports effectiveness.

Can Somatic Experiencing support work performance?

It helps leaders and teams manage pressure, communicate effectively, and recover after high-demand periods. Somatic Experiencing is frequently integrated into executive coaching, leadership development, and burnout recovery.

Is Somatic Experiencing reimbursed by Swiss health insurance?

Supplementary health insurance (Zusatzversicherung) coverage is available for some methods and for nervous system regulation training and education. Catherine is EMR and ASCA registered (krankenkassenanerkannt): ask what applies to you before your first session.
